Yet Another Zombie Survivors Impressions

Yet Another Zombie Survivors puts a squad-based spin on the bullet heaven formula, with rescued survivors expanding your arsenal during each run.

Yet Another Zombie Survivors left Early Access with its 1.0 launch on Steam late last month. I’ve only scratched the surface, but I’m enjoying its squad-based take on the bullet heaven formula.

Instead of playing as a single character and drawing random weapons as you go, each hero has a fixed set of weapons. Over the course of a round, you rescue two “survivors” to join your squad, opening up access to their weapons. This is a strong differentiator from the typical survivorslike, a genre crowded with games that don’t do much to stand out.

Story progression comes through missions with specific objectives to complete during a run. The goals are simple, usually things like finding objects in the level or surviving a run while carrying a specific item. The more interesting missions restrict you to specific starting characters, levels, or other conditions.

I have yet to discover everything the game has to offer, but so far it’s very fun. PossumCoffee will be posting a full review soon.
