Pixel Washer, out now in Early Access, is the latest game to translate the PowerWash Simulator formula to 2D. You play as a pig rejected by his family because he enjoys cleaning muck. Take jobs to grow your business, buying sprayers and trucks along the way.
From Steam:
“Grab your power washer and scrub pixelated worlds squeaky clean! Play as an adorable piggy, blast away grime, upgrade your gear, and restore a grubby town to its former glory in this cozy, almost zen-like game.”

The game gets repetitive fairly quickly. It’s not as well executed as Moldwasher, because only objects are dirty here, rather than the environments themselves. The top-down cleaning also feels more monotonous than Moldwasher’s isometric approach, though I can’t quite say why. Neither approach to cleaning is as compelling as the 3D washing in PowerWash Simulator.
I ran into controller weirdness when I tried the game on SteamOS. The dash button wouldn’t work, and the washer toggle behaved more like a turbo button than a switch. That was a couple of weeks ago, so hopefully those problems have been fixed for today’s Early Access launch.
I didn’t love the game in its current state, though I’m planning to check it out again at its 1.0 release. The developer plans to spend six to eight months adding content, features, and polish.

Pixel Washer gets repetitive quickly, and its 2D cleaning lacks the satisfaction of PowerWash Simulator.
