Void Salvage is an autobattler roguelite from Bohfam Games coming soon to Steam in Early Access. It mixes roguelite and incremental game mechanics in an interesting way, and it’ll be interesting to see how it evolves on the way to a full 1.0 release.

From Steam:

Beautiful pixel art space roguelite autobattler where your ship fights for you. Upgrade your ship, collect loot, stack wild synergies, and become ridiculously overpowered.

In Void Salvage, you fly through space fighting off attackers while salvaging wreckage and debris. You must manage your hull strength, shields, fuel, and augmentations as you try to survive each sector on the way to a boss. Each sector is divided into different points of interest—derelicts, outposts, unknown zones, and the like—that you choose from, much like a typical roguelite tree-based map.

You have upgrade slots that let you equip drones, ship augmentations such as extra hull strength, and combat mods. You’re fairly limited with three slots at the start, but you’ll have many more before you know it, opening the door to some wild builds. The more advanced augmentations also have slots for extra traits, providing even more variety in how you build your ship.

Between runs, you spend XP on permanent upgrades from the upgrade tree, unlocking more automation layers and systems while scaling your power. Interestingly, the game also includes a prestige system like you’d see in an incremental game.

I think the bones of a solid game are here. Right now, though, I found it just a little dull. It didn’t quite have that “one more run” pull that the best roguelites manage. Still, that kind of thing often comes with tuning and iteration during Early Access.

Void Salvage will be available on Steam in Early Access soon. A demo is available now, and you can also request access to a playtest.
