Turnbound, the excellent turn-based autobattler from indie developer 1TK Games, just dropped its largest update since hitting Steam Early Access back in January.

If you haven't played it, Turnbound is a strategic inventory management autobattler with a great hook. You're trapped in a board game, building out a grid of weapon, item, and trinket tiles to battle the ghost builds of other real players trapped with you in asynchronous PvP. Combat resolves automatically, so the actual strategy is in the setup: drafting tiles and building synergies. It’s like competitive Resident Evil inventory management. The game features dozens of trinkets and abilities, as well as hundreds of items.

The new offline mode lets you tinker with builds and experiment with tile combinations without needing a network connection, which makes a lot of sense for a game so focused on theorycrafting. Progress saves locally and syncs back to the cloud once you're online again.

The update also does some meaningful housekeeping on systems that needed it. Trinkets get a full visual overhaul and move into the Tile Catalogue, which itself picks up new filters by set, type, rarity, and keyword. Tooltips got upgraded to show how tiles evolve across levels, and a new Shop Preview system lets you actually see the downstream effects of an upgrade before you commit to buying it. Two new Core Tiles also join the roster.

Turnbound is still targeting a full 1.0 release later this year, and the game currently holds a Very Positive rating on Steam. To mark the update, it's 20% off on Steam through March 16. The game has compelling strategy and a great art style. I’ve had a lot of fun with it and it’s worth checking out!

Turnbound is available now on Steam in Early Access.
