Professor Layton and the New World of Steam is set to bring the long-running puzzle adventure series back in 2026, launching across Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, and PC via Steam. As a longtime fan of the series, I’m excited for this news.
This is a full new entry in the Professor Layton series, shifting the action to Steam Bison, America, where Professor Layton and Luke reunite for another mystery. LEVEL-5 is promising the biggest puzzle count in the series to date, with design handled by QuizKnock, a notable change that could shape how challenges feel moment to moment.
The tone looks familiar in the best way: eccentric townsfolk, clockwork aesthetics, and that clean, storybook style the series built its reputation on. Characters like Elinora and Elida Allinston, alongside figures like inventor Eggmuffin Sonder, the wealthy Bolt Allinstone, and lawman Sheriff Bobsley, suggest a broader ensemble driving the mystery this time.
There’s also a high-profile music collaboration, with Joe Hisaishi and Lilas (ikura of YOASOBI) contributing the main theme. More details expected as we get closer to launch. For now, this marks the series’ biggest multi-platform push yet, and its first mainline entry since Professor Layton and the Azran Legacy on Nintendo 3DS in 2013.
