Side Effects [Review]

Side Effects is a disturbingly addictive game of Russian Roulette where players ingest random pills, aiming to be the last one alive. The game maintains a highly unsettling visual style. Taking pills causes noticeable, disturbing visual effects on your character, such as developing warts or "frog eyes." The character models themselves are designed to be disturbing, all featuring large mouths and small eyes.

Players can use counter items to avoid death or inflict damage on opponents, including a jarring animation of someone having their teeth pulled out. Tools are available to help players identify which pills to avoid and even skip taking a pill altogether, thus missing a turn. This short, turn-based multiplayer game is enjoyable, though it doesn't offer much in the way of depth. Its strength lies in quick rounds of multiplayer fun, and it becomes truly entertaining once you get over the everything that this game shows you. Despite its unsettling visuals, this game is super fun. Side Effects is currently available on Steam.
