Trident's Tale [Review]

Trident's Tale offers a vast open world to explore by sea, fulfilling the desire to meticulously search every corner for crafting materials. The engaging storyline unfolds as each island acts as a mini-dungeon, seamlessly integrated with open-sea exploration, item collection, and thrilling ship battles. Monster encounters, like those with Megalodons, add another layer of excitement. The environmental puzzles found on islands and in dungeons are a pleasant diversion, typically solvable within a minute or two.

The game excels in naval exploration and combat, clearly inspired by and executed as well as Assassin's Creed Black Flag, making it the standout feature. Players also attain the ability to use magic, which is a nice touch to help with the often clunky sword fighting. While regular hand-to-hand combat feels clunky and slow, the overall experience remains fun.

Further enhancing the game are elements like gear collection for crafting and upgrading your ship, weapons, and costumes, a comprehensive skill tree, amusing banter with your companions, and a fantastic soundtrack. Unfortunately, the voice acting for the main character is a drawback; her constant chatter led me to mute the voice-over, transforming the experience into a more Zelda-esque adventure with silent subtitles.
