The Drifter Release Date Announced in New Trailer
Pulp adventure The Drifter from Powerhoof arrives on July 17 and the demo is playable now.
Powerhoof, developers of Crawl and Regular Human Basketball, have announced that their upcoming point-and-click adventure game, The Drifter, will hit Steam on July 17. A Nintendo Switch version will arrive later this year.
The Drifter is a pulpy sci-fi adventure with beautiful low-res pixel art graphics and animation. It features standard mouse controls and a unique twin-stick control scheme. A plot synopsis, from the devs:
Mick Carter's been drifting a while now - moving from job to job, never staying one place long. Jumping a box-car to his old home town, he witnesses a violent murder, is pursued by hi-tech soldiers, thrown in a reservoir and drowned.
Just before his consciousness is ripped away, it is thrust back into his body. Alive again, seconds before his death. Mick is framed for the killing he witnessed, tormented by his own past, and haunted by the feeling that something followed him back from the other side...
I’ve been excited about this game since it was first announced. The look and the writing look like my jam, and the demo proves my eager anticipation hasn’t been misplaced. The developers cite King, Crichton, Carpenter, and ‘70s Aussie grindhouse cinema as influences. Everything points to this game being incredible. I can’t wait.
You can get the demo now on Steam ahead of Next Fest.
