Neon Apex [Review]

Neon Apex is a fiercely fast-paced arcade racer that delivers a fantastic sense of speed. This is arguably the game's greatest strength. It features appealing futuristic cycles and cars, along with upgrade options. The presentation is generally acceptable, with responsive controls and snappy menus.

However, outdated mechanics significantly hold the game back. The visual design is a major flaw; all stages share a bland, repetitive grey aesthetic with a surprising lack on Neon Lights and simple tracks that lack variety. The game's sound design is weak, suffering from a notable lack of essential sound effects like tire screeching and other environmental noises. The music is unmemorable, leaning on generic '90s tropes. My favorite thing about this game is the random inclusion of fighting game mechanics. This is honesly should have been the main point of this game, with driving as a side option. They race, they beef, and then fight it out in the streets.

The racing itself is hampered by poor mechanics. Remember the car levels from Sonic Adventure 2 Battle….errr ya this feels exactly like that, which isn't great, directly mirroring the negative aspects of the said car levels. Furthermore, collisions are punitive, causing the vehicle to come to a complete stop. The general presentation of the game is ok with snappy menus and responsive controls, just the overall outdated mechanics hold this game back
