Empyreal [Review]

Empyreal, an action RPG developed by Silent Games and published by Secret Mode, presents a complex and feature-rich challenge. Set in a remote part of the galaxy, the game begins with an expedition to discover a massive Monolith on an uncharted planet, built by a lost civilization. While the initial cutscene suffered from tearing and jitters, The gameplay its setlf is smooth and responsive. The game offers extensive customization options, allowing players to adjust controls for each weapon, a fantastic feature often overlooked in other titles. Gifting items with valuable stats through a portal adds depth, and the game boasts appealing graphics and an engaging art style.

The game's challenge is noticeable but balanced, though some may find the initial stages tough before acquiring abilities and equipment. The maps are designed to reward thorough exploration, with surprises and enemies lurking in every corner or hole. While the difficulty scales, personally, it never felt overwhelming. One NPC is notably abrasive and is insufferable just an fyi to readers that may be interested in this game. Although only three weapon types are available, each offers distinct gameplay, providing good variety despite the limited number. Visually, the game can become repetitive due to only having two biomes, but the stage design effectively distracts from this. Exploration is excellent, with numerous detailed maps full of rewarding discoveries. Loot quantity feels appropriately balanced, offering enough to reward exploration without becoming overwhelming. High-rolls and stat rerolls are easily attainable with commonly dropped or purchasable orbs. Unfortunately, there isn’t a whole lot to say about this game. There are the occasional bugs, clipping, and awkward animations. I do like it but it’s a pond wide and a bathtub deep. For $20, Empyreal is highly recommended as an enjoyable and engaging experience.
