Chasmal Fear [Review]

Chasmal Fear is an incredibly creepy and intense two-player Co-op survival horror game that excels at creating a disturbing atmosphere. The bodycam view significantly enhances the immersion. Players must carefully manage limited resources, make strategic decisions that impact the game's progression, and survive against monsters that evolve to become more powerful. The constant tension is a highlight of the game constantly keeping you on your toes. This is heightened by the limited ammunition which forces careful planning and conservation to deal with the frightening creatures. Puzzle-solving elements, provide a welcome break from the frantic running and hiding and effectively contribute to the intensifying dread.

The sound effects are exceptionally well done and further enhance the overall fear aspect of the game making you want to look over your shoulder and in any possible hiding spots. Overall, This being my first found footage or body cam-like game it definitely surpassed expectations. However, several issues can ruin the immersion and experience. The sudden, unexplained spawning of certain enemy types is frustrating. The absence of a map makes navigation back to save points difficult. While limited mobility may add to the fear factor, the inability to sprint and reload simultaneously feels like a significant oversight.

Numerous bugs plague the game, with enemies frequently freezing, aimlessly following, or disappearing altogether. Controller support, which is advertised, is currently inadequate. The save point system is the most problematic aspect, Due to extremely poor saving functionality, we lost an hour of progress after dying. This led us to abandon the game entirely out of frustration. Chasmal Fear is a game I definitely recommend; we loved it. However, keep the potential bugs in mind. Also, you'll run into progression problems if you don't save frequently.
