Lone Ruin [Review]
Lone Ruin is a spell-based rogue-like, twin-stick shooter designed with a strong emphasis on re-playability. While the game is engaging, it remains relatively basic and doesn’t offer much incentive to play through it multiple times once the main run is completed. The game does not feature a traditional narrative; instead, it presents players with a series of levels that increase in difficulty as you progress, along with survival maps that typically last around five minutes each.
Players can enhance their gameplay experience by utilizing damage modifiers, such as thunder, which can be particularly advantageous if the right items are acquired during gameplay. Despite the variety of abilities available, each one is manageable and provides a satisfying experience when used effectively.
Overall, Lone Ruin is an enjoyable game. I was able to complete it in approximately two hours and found myself continuing to play. However, it is worth noting that the game lacks substantial content, which may limit its long-term appeal. Despite this, Lone Ruin boasts an appealing art style and fluid action sequences. The game bears a resemblance to Children of Morta in terms of its visual and gameplay elements. Lone Ruin is currently available for purchase on Nintendo Switch and Steam.
