The cream of the crop of U.A. High School, The Big Three, stop by to give a chat to Class 1-A about their work experiences. Togata Mirio, the strongest of the three, decides it’s better to show them through a sparring session rather than telling them about it. It’s through this practice fight that he’s able to show the class how far they have to go, and how the work experience will help them get there.
Up to this point the students have been able to hold their own against most of their opponents. It’s rare to see them be completely outmatched when they’re able to work together. However, against Mirio they are completely overwhelmed. It’s a reminder that they’re all in their first year at U.A. and still have a lot of work to do to catch up to some of the older students. It’s a nice way to re-calibrate viewers’ expectations of these heroes in training.
The introduction of Mirio and his story also works as a reminder that being a good hero is more than just raw power. That an individual’s understanding of their quirk and how to best utilize it will determine how far they can go. It sets up a nice foundation to build up the story of Deku, who will use his innate tenacity and analytical nature to eventually become one of the greatest heroes.
Although all members of the Big Three are introduced, Mirio gets the spotlight. While viewers are able to get a sense of the personality of the other two, not much else is divulged. Their quirks? Who knows. It’s a letdown to not see more from these two characters. Here’s hoping that there’s a decent payoff down the line.
Meanwhile, the League of Villains is also working to on getting stronger. They’ve spotted a villain that’s making a lot of noise, enough to garner being invited for an interview of sorts. Unfortunately, this villain is an unknown quantity. They certainly look the part of a strong villain, and there are hints they’ll play a big role next season.
Episode 63 is the final episode of season three. It does a solid job of leaving enough question marks to excite viewers for season four, although knowing a bit more about some of the new characters would’ve been nice.
