A new life they said, exploration, Glory for the King, is it worth this?
The Hoards approach. Wave upon wave of savages accost the walls. You develop new tactics, new engines of war; but still they come. Will it never end?
The Exiled: Siege is a coop/one-vs-all, 1-4/5 player format board game that pits you against an unending hoard of barbarians, monsters, and siege engines. The defenders are trying to survive until re-enforcements arrive, while the attacker is trying to ravage the city. This is a streamlined version of The Convicted, which was funded back in March 2014, with retooled rules and mechanics for a faster game.
Build your defences to withstand an ever evolving enemy. Combat revolves around the Tactical RPS format. Each Unit has a Strength and a Weakness that can be exploited accordingly. If the City is standing after 4 rounds, the Defenders win. If the City is destroyed in any round, the Attackers win.
One-vs-All (1-5 Players) This game casts 1 player as the Attacker who controls the Horde and wants nothing but to destroy the city and drive the settlers from their lands. The Defenders choose a Unique hero sheet which gives them a flavour background and Special abilities.
Co-op (1-4 Players) This game mode allows you to play in a Player vs Environment style mode where you choose your heroes, and defend against a pre-set pattern with varying difficulty that you select either at random or by committee.
There are 3 levels of Pledges at the moment:
$50 Baseline – The game and stretch goals.
$80 Hero – Baseline + Minis if unlocked (There is an early bird option, but these are filling up soon.
$89 Lord – Hero level + Exclusive Hero card + Autographs
Right now the price points are fair. I feel they could have some added value on the Lord level, and set the price higher, right now there really isn’t any reason to get the Lord level unless you REALLY want that one card.
The Exiled: Siege looks promising. The Convicted was well received so there’s no reason to doubt the publisher’s quality. The option of having full co-op or all-vs-one gives you options on how you want to play. Having a variety of Attackers makes each game different. Difficulty is stated to be highly in favor of the Attackers. Judging from comments about The Convicted, it sounds about as difficult as the Fantasy Flight Lord of the Rings game.
Game time is stated to be 90-120 minutes, so for your first playthrough, you’ll need to dedicate a whole evening to learning.
I’m throwing down for it. Judging from how the publisher’s last kickstarter went, they fulfilled the pledge within 5 months, which is fantastic for Kickstarter standards.
