Bidet Critters!!! The release of Vox Machina Origins series II is almost here and the amazing folks over at Dark Horse were kind enough to send over an early review copy of issue #1. For those of you who don’t have any clue what I’m talking about, Critical Role is a weekly show where a bunch of nerdy ass voice actors play Dungeons & Dragons. Their incredible talent and determination led to the release of a comic book series based on their adventures prior to the live stream we know and love today. If you’d like to know more, check out the article right here!
While Vox Machina completes their adventures in the city of Stilben, their party member Grog disappears in the night. During the search for their giant-sized friend, another member parts ways in an attempt to complete their own journey. This empty slot on the team might not be vacant for very long as Vox Machina runs into an old friend of Grog’s. With the help of this new ally, the party discovers that Grog may be in more danger than originally suspected.
Vox Machina Origins series II issue 1 is a fantastic installment to the franchise. The dialogue is engaging and feels true to each character. The story is fluid and well paced. You can thank Matthew Mercer and Jody Houser for the well written story and script. Don’t even get me started on the fantastic artwork by Olivia Samson. Her ability to convey emotion and action are stunning. Colors are beautifully executed by Msassyk and cover art is by the talented Fiona Staples.
While the action may be limited, the humor is rampant. Vex and Vax have some amazing back and forths. Even though there’s a lot to enjoy, it’s clear that this issue serves to set up far more interesting events to come. I can’t wait to see what adventures await Vox Machina in this 6 issue series.
Vox Machina Origins Series II issue 1 will be available on July 10th, 2019. You can preorder your copy by clicking the link right here!
