Majogami [Review]

Majogami is a fast-paced, side-scrolling action-adventure game reminiscent of Muramasa: The Demon Blade. The combat is exhilarating, pitting players against paper-made demons using a distinctive, Sonic-like homing attack. The core combat relies on quick-succession homing attacks. However, it's not a button-spamming affair; players must precisely aim for openings within a circle surrounding enemies to execute the attack, making each defeat rewarding. Some enemies require regular combo slashes to activate the colored circle, enabling the homing attack. Players also have access to seven different transformations, each fundamentally changing the playstyle and fighting abilities.

Similar to modern titles, players can customize their characters' stats using various equips and upgrades. The game features 35 stages and 13 bosses. Developers have promised regular post-game content, including leaderboards, to further expand the experience. Visually, the game is impressive. On the Switch 2, it shines as a perfect handheld experience. When playing on a TV, users can select from different display modes, including Regular, Visual, Balance, and Performance. Majogami is a stellar example of excellence achieved through simplicity. While the game may not be extensive in its features, its engaging gameplay and suitable length combine to create a perfectly satisfying experience.
