SDCC@Home: New Mutants Panel
By: RogueSymbiote
Comic-Con At Home is in full swing with some incredible panels and first looks at a wide variety of content. One of such panels is for the Twentieth Century Studios/Marvel film New Mutants. With an original release date slated for April 13th, 2018, New Mutants is in contention for the most release date changes of all time. New Mutants is currently scheduled to hit theaters on August 28th.
The panel consisted of director Josh Boone and the cast: Maisie Williams, Anya Anya Taylor-Joy, Charlie Heaton, Alice Braga, Blu Hunt, and Henry Zaga. Moderator by Ira Madison III led a discussion which dives into the Demon Bear comic book arc that influenced the film, the cult following that has amassed during the "cursed" release date drama, the horror-thriller components, and the relationships between the cast and their characters. Iconic New Mutants comic book illustrator Bill Sienkiewicz joined the panel briefly to discuss his connection to the film and his creative influence. Sienkiewicz is known for his work on the early New Mutants issues as his unique art style paired well with the dark narrative writer Chris Claremont was cultivating.
As what is come to be expected from SDCC, fans were treated with just over 2 minutes of the opening scene of the film along with an extended version of the latest trailer. While this Con nerd is missing the hustle and bustle that is SDCC, fans have the opportunity to rewatch these panels on their own time!
