Ravenlok: Legendary Edition [Review] Second Opinion
Set in a charming world reminiscent of The Legend of Zelda meets Alice in Wonderland, Ravenlok offers an enjoyable 4-5 hour experience that doesn't overstay its welcome. While some online criticisms point to its simplicity and mindless button-mashing combat Do be reminded that games like classic God of War, Warriors games, Darksiders and so on also has the same issue of mindless button mashing. Not every game needs to be overly complex. Ravenlok is a fun, story-driven adventure that knows its limits, unlike some longer games with equally repetitive gameplay. However, the lack of clear guidance and a mini-map occasionally made it difficult to navigate and understand objectives, leading to moments of feeling lost which isn't helpful since this game has an over-reliance on fetch quests.
Ravenlok: Legendary Edition strongly echoes the Legend of Zelda series in both gameplay and some story elements. The story begins in a way similar to Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire, with a young girl named Kira and her family moving to a countryside home. Kira first has to help unpack and get situated. While cleaning, Kira discovers a mirror that leads to a magical Alice in Wonderland like realm. Kira is then told she is the hero of legend and is tasked with finding three relics to gain access to the evil queen’s castle. This closely mirrors the collection of the three medallions in Zelda: Ocarina of Time to progress the narrative. True to the Zelda formula, Specifically Ocarina of Time, players can also use bombs and various other items in combat or for puzzles. lastly the enemies become increasingly difficult as the game progresses. Ravenlok is an easy game. I personally just didn't upgrade much to allow for a bit of a challenge. Hilariously enough I tend to forget to upgrade in games and end up dong it at the end of the game. Despite these minor drawbacks, Ravenlok shines with its fantastic graphics, boasting a unique half-voxel style, richly detailed environments, and vibrant colors. Ultimately, Ravenlok is an incredibly fun and easy game that I thoroughly enjoyed.
