Forgotten Fields [Review]
Forgotten Fields is a story-driven narrative that’s about an author with writer’s block. You play through his life, and when he gets an inspiration for his book, you will play the scene out yourself! It’s a clever concept, but other than that, the game is very fetch quest-heavy. It gets a bit repetitive. I enjoyed the concept and story, but unfortunately had a lot of problems when playing the game.
I experienced a lot of glitches, mostly visuals, but I did get softlocked. After a cut scene, I could no longer interact with things like the car I needed to progress the story. And if a dialogue box popped up from going out of bounds, I was locked in place. The character can’t move when a text box is open, and I couldn't progress through the text. Reloading the save didn’t fix it, but closing out the game entirely did. Unfortunately, this wasn’t the only big problem I encountered; I also noticed that the quicktime events showed keyboard controls. Which was problematic as I played the game on the PlayStation 5.
All of the issues I faced took me out of the story and were honestly just annoying. I found the story to be slow and the gameplay to be repetitive. Despite it being slow, the story is what makes the game interesting. Unfortunately, I don’t think a game like this is for me. And the glitches and issues I experienced made it worse.
