The Dude Games and Dojo System have released a demo for the upcoming arcade-style side-scroller Dinopunk: The Cacops Adventure. It’s a 16-bit platformer in the style of retro classics set in a jurassic world.
From Steam:
In a dystopian world inhabited by dinosaurs, take on the role of Cacops, a small amphibious dinosaur with a unique power: water control. Immerse yourself in his world and help him on his quest to recover his stolen egg from the evil ninjas while solving intricate puzzles in his action-packed, fun-filled Jurassic world.

The demo includes a few levels, each visually unique, and a boss fight. Cacops is a green dinosaur wearing a Hawaiian shirt, who is able to fire water projectiles. As I played, I was reminded of platformer Adventure Island—not one of my favorites, but a classic loved by many.
The controls are responsive, except that Cacops stops moving if you fire a projectile while he’s on the ground; this is frustrating because it’s not the case I he’s in the air. The physics lack a sense of momentum and weight, which I hope the developer tunes before the game’s release. The difficulty needs adjustment as well, if the boss in the demo is intended to appear early in the game.

The graphics are 16-bit in style. The pixel art could use a little bit of refinement, as it’s rough around the edges and could be cleaner. The visuals are colorful but flat.
As it stands, Dinopunk doesn’t have enough going for it to make it stand out. It needs a bit more time in the oven if the content in the demo is meant to represent the final product.
Dinopunk: The Cacops Adventure has a demo available now on Steam.
