Climbing for Your Life: Inside White Knuckle with Dark Machine Games

Holly and Quinn from Dark Machine Games dive deep into their indie horror sensation White Knuckle.

At PAX West, I had an in-depth conversation with Holly Jencka and Quinn Steagall of Dark Machine Games about their sensational horror climbing roguelike White Knuckle. They touched on a wide range of topics about their studio, the game’s development and design, and horror in gaming.

I wrote about White Knuckle earlier this year. In the game, you must ascend through Sub-Structure 17, a massive, abandoned, underground research facility. You’ve gotta climb fast, because a writhing mass is rising to consume you. It’s a tense, scary, and thrilling experience. I love the gameplay, the concept, and the visual design, so it was awesome to have the opportunity to chat with two of the creators and pick their brains.

I interviewed other developers at horror publisher DreadXP about their games, so stay tuned for more videos like this soon!
