Cavern of Dreams [Review]

Cavern of Dreams is a nostalgic adventure game that perfectly captures the essence of classic Nintendo 64 titles. Its graphics and gameplay feel as if they were directly ported from a 90s N64 release. The game evokes the spirit of classic Rare games, such as Banjo-Tooie or Donkey Kong 64, featuring a vast, interconnected world with numerous paths opening to new zones.

The objective is to locate scattered dragon eggs. Collecting these eggs unlocks power-ups that enhance your dragon with new abilities, like ground pounding and gliding, reminiscent of Spyro. During my playthrough, the game ran flawlessly on the Nintendo Switch, with no bugs and consistently smooth gameplay. The raw nostalgia this game delivers is remarkable, solidifying its status as a masterpiece.

Cavern of Dreams also features engaging puzzles that offer rewarding experiences for the player. The music, while fantastic and reminiscent of Animal Crossing and Spyro, doesn't quite align with the game's overall theme. Nevertheless, Cavern of Dreams exudes charm and is an outstanding game that older gamers will undoubtedly cherish.
