BAFTA-Winning Herobeat Studios Reveals New Action Roguelite, Rewilders: The Lost Spring [Press Release]

It’s not often that I get a press release for a game that is already so beautiful that I use the promo screenshots for a wallpaper, but here we are! This game looks amazing, and I look forward to seeing more about it in the future. - Janette/PossumCoffee

Barcelona, Spain, August 18, 2025 — Herobeat, developer of the BAFTA-award winning and Game Award-nominated title Endling - Extinction is Forever, is proud to introduce its follow-up game, Rewilders: The Lost Spring, to the world today. Rewilders is an open-world action roguelite with creature collection and metroidvania-like progression that tells an emotionally impactful story about friendship, family, responsibility, and restoration. This is the studio's second game and first to self-publish, and the team will share launch details in the future. The team will show the game to select media for the first time at gamescom in Cologne, Germany from 20 August to 22 August, 2025.

Watch the reveal trailer to get a glimpse of the adventures await in Rewilders: The Lost Spring. Players embody Abi, a survivor returning to the poisoned surface of the world to rescue her lost family and restore the wild. Discover corrupted biomes and face off against twisted creatures born from a failed society. The trailer also features an original theme song with vocals by Julie Elven (Aloy's Theme, Horizon Zero Dawn).

As you heal the world, its original inhabitants return. The Hântu are reawakened fauna — local creatures once driven to extinction — who join the fight and expand the player's abilities. By feeding and leveling them up, players can craft their own team and playstyle, adapting their combat strategy on every run. In the skyship base, players can grow plants using the seeds and other resources gathered while exploring to unlock permanent buffs, evolve companions, and prepare for the next descent.

Every run sends players into a dynamic open world filled with hostile enemies. Use metroidvania-style traversal boons like a glider, grappling hook, or wall-running to reach and explore new biomes. Rebuild ecosystems through action: rewild the zones, reactivate Springs and bring back life one biome at a time. But beware — each victory brings a choice. Will they restore the memory of the world that was... or let hatred reshape it into something new?

ewilders: The Lost Spring will feature:

  • Creature collecting — collect Hântu, native creatures with active abilities, status effects, and passive bonuses.

  • Fast-paced third-person combat combining melee, ranged, and Hântu skills.

  • Roguelite elements with randomized rewards, enemies, and starting points plus a forgiving death and respawn systems.

  • Interconnected world with metroidvania-style progression using gliders, wall runs, grapples and more.

  • Base-building system: grow plants and fruits to level up your Hântu and unlock permanent buffs.

  • Narrative progression: choose between Memory or Hatred to shape your build and gameplay path.

From Endling to Rewilders' Beginning

Herobeat's debut title, Endling: Extinction is Forever, told the heartfelt and heartbreaking story of the last family of foxes surviving an ecologically devastated future Earth marred by toxic environments, cruel hunters, and dangerous natural elements. The game saw broad critical acclaim and won the Games Beyond Entertainment BAFTA in 2022, alongside a nomination for the Games for Impact Award at The Game Awards.

While Rewilders isn't a complete spiritual successor to the team's first title, players can expect echoes of Endling's heartfelt storytelling, lovingly designed aesthetics and score within, filled with messages that last well after the credits have finished rolling. The team was heavily inspired by the works of Hayao Miyazaki and Studio Ghibli films for conveying messages of ecological destruction, empowerment, and family while developing Rewilders. Utilizing creative audio-visual presentation and gameplay to tell evocative stories pulses through Herobeat's development philosophy.
