Painkiller [Review]
Painkiller 2025 is a fantastic reboot, offering a very enjoyable experience. The fast, over-the-top gameplay is the overall highlight, excelling particularly in co-op. The combat is satisfying and intense, with impactful, creative weapons such as a gun that shoots lightning to a gun that shoots Vampire-killing steaks and fluid movement, much like the Doom series.
The game's atmospheric backdrop is alot like Doom with a sprinkle of Jericho from the xbox 360 era. Lots of depictions of death and hell. While the narrative depth isn't the focus, the story is fleshed out through character dialogue, which reveals information about the champions' past lives (though not all characters remember them). These conversations are conveniently logged for later review. Despite its terrifying appearance, the character Void is notably polite, a team player, and a good guy.
A fantastic, Doom-like soundtrack accompanies the action. The game is stylish and intense, but it doesn't take itself too seriously, incorporating charm and humor. A small but appreciated detail is the music and character speed slowing down when you enter green water, showcasing a high level of attention to detail.
