Fallen City Brawl [Review]

Fallen City Brawl offers a fun beat 'em up experience, but it's hampered by several significant flaws. The gameplay, while impactful, suffers from stiffness and inconsistent hitboxes and hurtboxes. Running attacks deplete health, and enemy balancing is off, leading to universally fast enemy deaths or a random guy taking you out in 2-3 hits. Visually, the game is unappealing, reminiscent of an early Game Boy Advance title with Sega Genesis-era pixel work, complete with stiff animations and movement. Character movements suggest limited mobility, as if their bones have been fused. Furthermore, the game is incredibly short, clocking in at under an hour for completion. The camera's constant zooming and shaking during fights can be distracting. Despite these issues, the core beat 'em up gameplay is enjoyable. The game is also considerably easier than many other beat 'em ups, and is easy to draw comparisons to the classic Streets of Rage titles rather than the newer iterations or a Neo Geo game. While it needs more work, it is a great beat 'em up overall.
