Adventurers will enjoy this irreverently interactive buddy comedy.

Randal’s Tuesday is an interactive, point-and click , buddy comedy, which was designed through a partnership with the game’s publisher, Nuclear Tales and Nexus Game Studios. It’s fun to play. A simple interface allows adventurers to participate in a humorous, adult-oriented story. The world where this tale transpires is comprised of cartoon graphics and catchy sound-design. Adventurers are an integral part of this story.

While playing Randal’s Tuesday, adventurers divide their time between three playable characters; Matt, Charlie, and the titular Randal. Randal wants to engage shenanigans. he bites off more than he can chew. Matt and Charlie are trying to ascertain Randal’s whereabouts and objective. The finale ties the three narratives neatly together.

The context sensitive interface is simple for even a novice adventurer to understand. It works the same way regardless of the three characters adventurers are guiding and controls all their actions: movement, conversation with other characters, gathering and using items, and saving and loading the game. Left-clicking on a spot on screen causes the character to walk over there. Left-clicking on an object causes the character to walk over and pick it up. They store it at the top of the screen. Adventurers access the inventory when they move the mouse to the top of the screen. Selecting an object, by left-clicking on it, readies it for use in the game. Releasing the left button over an area of interest attempts to put it to use. The game informs adventurers if they are successful.

Left-clicking on a character reveals a list of topics. Left-clicking on one of them begins a conversation about the selected topic.

When it’s time to take a break, the interface ensures that adventures may Save and load their progress. Pressing “Escape” activates the menu. Left-clicking on “Save,” makes the save menu appear. Adventurers left-click on an empty slot to save the game. Loading the game requires a similar process. Adventures load the game from the title screen by left-clicking on “Load” and then left-clicking on a picture that represents a saved game. The pictures are organized by date and time. They may also load progress while playing by pressing “Escape,” left-clicking on “Load,” then left-clicking on a date and time. Pressing “Escape" also reveals an objectives option. Left-clicking on it reveals objectives for the character. This helpful function makes it easier for adventurers to remember what they were doing after a break. Achieving those objective means using the interface to solve puzzles.

The puzzles are fun. Solving them isn’t burdensome. If adventurers find themselves in need of help, they may access a helpful walkthrough by pressing “Escape” and left-clicking on “Guide.” All the answers will be available. Adventurers could use this guide to help Matt find the ingredients of a hangover cure to gain information from an unconscious student. Adventurers will enjoy that puzzle. A second interesting puzzle comes near the finale when Randal must find the best route to get enough power to a machine. There are many possible solutions to this puzzle. The guide shows the best one.

Great graphics and sound frame this zany, puzzle-filled story. They are reminiscent of comic books and cartoons. The characters spend most of their time on a university campus where adult situations occur. The music is catchy. It doesn’t distract from solving puzzles. Animation aids great voice acting in endowing the characters with personality and chutzpah. This is especially noticeable when guiding Randal. He saunters everywhere he goes and speaks with an enviable confidence. Taken together, the animation and voice-acting grant him an aura of invincibility. I enjoyed guiding him.

I enjoyed playing Randal’s Tuesday on a PC using Steam. It has a funny story, crafty puzzles and amusing characters. Adventurers should consider playing Randal’s Tuesday. They won’t regret it.
