Paper Man the unplayable broken mess

Paper Man is an unplayable, broken mess. My experience began with technical frustration; it took four attempts to even move past the start screen. Once the game finally worked, you will be greeted by an incredibly grating voice delivering a shallow, nonsensical premise about a dragon obsessed with stealing mail.

While the game’s aesthetic is an obvious tribute to platformers like Banjo Kazooie, the illusion shatters within moments of gameplay. The main character’s mechanics are counterproductive: the protagonist attacks by throwing the very mail you are tasked with collecting, and the character specific skills are poorly implemented. The "fast runner" character is particularly problematic; several times during my playthrough, I clipped through the ground because I was running too fast. When this game is actually running somewhat well, it inevitably crashes. Between the constant technical failures and the lackluster design, the experience is miserable, and even the local multiplayer option only serves to ensure that your friends suffer through the experience alongside you.
