Sous Raccoon [Review]
Sous Raccoon offers a chaotic, rouglite, tower defense inspired twist on the Overcooked formula, tasking players with protecting customers from relentless waves of creatures while they enjoy their food. Sous Raccoon introduces typical roguelite elements, letting players select unique perks after each round to enhance their character’s abilities; back at the hub world, players can upgrade their character’s weapons, outfit, and other gear to make them their own. Another rougelite element is that after each round, the stage can have various events or hazards happen, like an increase in customers or an increase in enemies. Players also have the option to get perks and upgrades, as expected at the end of the round in a rouglite game.
Also, in the hub world, players can play minigames, which is a nice departure from the typical gameplay loop. A palate cleanser, if you will. The game’s core loop departs from traditional Overcooked like games. Instead of cooking dishes yourself, you’ll coordinate with the chef: one player gathers ingredients, while others handle orders, serve food, fight creatures, and perform dances to keep customers healthy and shielded from incoming threats. The survival aspect is deepened by placing decoys to fend off enemy waves, creating a blend of genres that feels fresh and frantic. My friends and I had a fantastic time with this game, and I truly hope to see it make its way to the Switch 2 in the future.
