Sunset Summit [Review]

Ever wanted to be an overpowered elderly person with good knees who loves to climb? In Sunset Summit, you play as one of the many elderly characters with nothing left to lose who have decided to take up mountain climbing as a hobby. In this cooperative game, up to eight players try to reach the summit before the sun sets within an hour. The game emphasizes teamwork, and the difficulty increases based on how well you cooperate as a group.

Checkpoints are scattered throughout the mountain, but they can only be activated in a specific order, and only once every player is next to it. Therefore, your progress is limited by your slowest teammate. Fortunately, there are ways to assist each other. The most helpful feature is the ability to lower ropes for other players to grab doing this alows players to climb the rope if they’re struggling. Additionally, you can deliver items to each other using a drone. These items can be incredibly useful, providing boosts like increased stamina, double jumps, or even the brief ability to fly with power poots. Yes, crack open a can of beans and shart your way to the top.

Sunset Summit shares a similar premise with other climbing games like Chained Together or Only Up, but it expands on this concept by emphasizing cooperative gameplay. It’s a true team game, as rushing ahead without reaching a checkpoint means anyone who falls will spawn at an older checkpoint, prolonging the process. Therefore, the enjoyment of the game largely depends on how well everyone helps each other. Fortunately, Sunset Summit is not a daunting commitment, as it’s only $4.99 on Steam, making it accessible for a large group of people to try out. While the game doesn’t offer much variety beyond climbing and facing varying levels of challenging platforming, you can’t really beat a five dollar game. With a good friend group, you can easily spend a significant amount of time playing it casually and catching up with your friends.

Final Verdict:
