Strictly Limited and Atari have announced a new publishing partnership, kicking things off with a physical PlayStation 5 release of Jeff Minter’s reimagined I, Robot.

I’ve always had a soft spot for Minter’s weird, maximalist design style, so seeing this get a premium physical run is wonderful. This edition is positioned as a collector’s piece: limited to 1,000 numbered copies, printed manual included, exclusive to PS5. It’s a small run, clearly aimed at preservation-minded fans and collectors.

The game itself leans fully into Minter’s style. Move across grids, flip every tile to unlock the exit, and don’t jump while the eye is watching or you’re instantly zapped. Clear a stage, and you shift into a tube-shooter bonus segment, blasting incoming shapes before the next level kicks in. All of this with Llamasoft’s signature assault of color and sound.

Game features:

  • 55 levels split between platforming and arena-style challenges

  • Tube-shooter bonus stages between levels

  • Procedural music that ramps with performance

  • Online leaderboards

This version builds on an already obscure foundation. The original I, Robot arcade cabinet from 1984 is one of Atari’s rarest releases, and Minter’s take pushes it even further into sensory overload territory.

For anyone not chasing the limited physical release, I, Robot is already available digitally across Steam, PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch, making it easy to jump into Minter’s latest take without tracking down one of the 1,000 copies.

Order the physical release directly from Strictly Limited.

Release date: April 17, 2025 (Digital) / May 1, 2026 (Physical – PS5, Strictly Limited Edition)
