A fun adventure that blends Science-Fiction, Fantasy, and Horror.
Escape From 8-Bit High poster the band Blueberry Finn Fighting Monsters Escape from 8-bit High byDuck Made of Wood / Dionous Games 2026
Escape From 8-bit High is an excellent point-and-click adventure that was realized through a partnership between its designer, Duck Made of Wood and its publisher Dionous Games. Three authentic characters travel through three interconnected story lines that cater to adventurers of many tastes; including Science-Fiction, Fantasy, and Horror. A simple mouse-driven interface allows adventurers to control all the action. The world the interface lets adventurers manipulate is brought to life, through beautiful pixel-art and sound-design; including music and voice-acting. It’s a zany, dangerous world where many characters challenge adventurers with many puzzles. Adventurers will have to combat enemies. Fortunately, those of any skill level will be be able to acquit themselves well since the game provides a choice of difficulty levels. Escape From 8-bit High is a fun, epic quest adventurers won’t forget.
Escape From 8-Bit High begins innocently. The band Blueberry Finn consists of three friends; Alex, Duck, and Hank, who are hired to play at their prom. When they arrive, something isn’t right at the school. Each hero takes their own path. Hank deals with Horror at the high school. Duck deals with Science-Fiction in outer space and Alex deals with Fantasy in an underground world. All of these divergent paths are connected through one villain. The heroes work together to stop him.
Adventurers guide the heroes with a simple point-and-click interface. It controls everything: character movement, fast-travel, gathering and using items, talking to characters, tracking tasks, combat, switching characters and saving and loading the game. Left-clicking on a spot on screen makes the character walk there. Adventurers may “fast-travel” to any screen they have previously visited by left-clicking on the map on the top of the screen and then left-clicking on one of the locations listed there. Each setting in the game contains interactive hotspots. Left-clicking on the exclamation point, the first icon on the upper-left corner of the screen, reveals all the hotspots on the screen. Hovering over one with the mouse reveals its name. Left-clicking on one reveals the commands which can be used on it. Left-clicking on the hotspot, and then, left-clicking on the eye provides a description of the hotspot. If the hotspot is an object left-clicking on the hand picks it up and adds it to the inventory. Left-clicking on the backpack, the fourth icon from the left at the top of the screen, opens the inventory of items. Left-clicking on an item reveals the commands that can be used on it. One of the commands is an icon of the item itself. Left-clicking on this icon selects it for use in the game. Moving the item away from the inventory window closes the window. Left-clicking the item on a hotspot attempts to use it there. The game will let adventurers know if they are successful.
Adventurers must catch tokens while fighting in Escape From 8-Bit High by Duck Made of Wood / Dionous Games
Sometimes conversation doesn’t work and its time to fight. Combat comes in two difficulty levels that adventurers choose at the start of each separate conflict: “Normal,” or “Super-Easy.” I chose “Super-Easy” because it was a lot easier with my slow reflexes. Combat involves moving a mouse-driven platform left to right in order to catch tokens. Catching four tokens of the same kind empowers the protagonist with a special attack, except for the skull tokens. Catching four of them causes the enemy to release their own special attack. Catching four different tokens will not activate the special attack and will cause the additional detriment of making the tokens fall at a faster rate. Combat stops when either the protagonist’s or their enemy’s energy bar is empty.
It’s easy to save the game before entering a dangerous situation. Press” Escape,” Left-click on “Save,” type a label for your game, hit enter. Then hit “Save” to save the game.
Loading the game can be easily done in two ways; from the title screen by left-clicking on “Continue” or from within the game by pressing “Escape” left-clicking on “Load-Game” left-clicking on a label and Left-clicking on “Load.” It’s easy to remember tasks after loading the game by left-clicking on the task list on the upper-right corner of the screen.
It is possible to switch between heroes by left-clicking on their portraits on the upper-left corner of the screen. During the game it will be necessary to switch characters in order to help each other solve problems. At the end they will all work together to defeat the villain.
This world is composed of wonderful pixel-art. My favorite is Alex’s underground world. It has many interesting animals.

The music fits the scenes well. I like the music for the battle scenes. The fast tempo perfectly matches the frenzied mood of combat. The voice acting is excellent. My favorite is Alex because she is funny and snarky.
This world of great graphics and music contains may puzzles for adventurers to solve. I enjoyed a puzzle at the beginning of the game where I had to make a pizza to attract a turtle. It reminded of the Ninja Turtles of my childhood. It made me smile. Another interesting puzzle involves making a burrito in order to teleport. It made me laugh.
