In Cake Bash, players compete with one another in various mini games to be the top dough in the bakery. Up to four players can locally battle it out or take the competition online to spice it up. Add some NPC’s if you feel like sharpening your skills and surprising your friends later.
Cake Bash looks absolutely astonishing on the Xbox One X and I can only expect it to look even better on the next series of consoles. All the colors are bursting with vibrancy and there is not a single jagged line in site. This game is a wonderful mix of Mario Party and a hint of arena brawler.
The main objective of the game is to be the tastiest looking pastry for a customer’s wedding. Players choose which pastry they want to play as whether its a normal cupcake or a mini double decker cake. Each sweet also has over 5 different colors to pick if you feel like a little extra flair. The opening cutscene shows your pastries heading out into the cafe where you find out that you will be competing in a series of games to try and be the best looking cake for a wedding dessert. The players then get to vote on which stage they want to battle on. The stages change with each round so you can see all of the levels the game has available. Some stages even have hazards that you knead to watch out for, such as burning stove tops or very hungry pigeons.
After each round is completed, everyone is rewarded coins based on how they did which they then get to spend going Topping Shopping. These toppings boost your looks and they vary in price and sometimes you can even get a bad topping if you go with the cheaper choice so watch out! Once purchases are done, you choose a stage for Snack time, which is a cute mini game before its Bash Time and you beat the crumbs out of each other. After three sets of this, points are tallied up and rewards are given based on how many toppings your pastry has (or hasn’t) and whichever one has the most points, is crowned the Tastiest.
Some of the Bash levels include Hundreds and Thousands, Cookie Bash, and Sweet Victory. There are currently five Bash stages to pick from. There are eight Snack stages such as Fork Knife, Campfire, Neapolitan, and Scones & S’mores. With 21 cake flavours and over 30 toppings to unlock as you play, there is always something new to earn to sweeten the fun.
Such a thing as a perfect cake?
Yes. Yes there is. Cake Bash is a great party game for those of all ages and provides solid entertainment that is hilariously fun. I mean, who hasn’t wanted to beat up tiny cakes and donuts just to be the best looking delicacy? There are tons of collectibles to unlock and hours of endless enjoyment.
Cake Bash came out of the oven a nice golden brown and perfectly moist. My friends and I really enjoyed ourselves. In my opinion, there are no flaws with this game. Coatsink has outdone themselves with this game and I look forward to seeing where they go from here. If anything, the only negative thing I have to say is after hours of play in one session, it can get boring but that’s subjective. The amount of playtime with anyone on any game will always vary per person
Icing the Cake
Cake Bash is, by far, my favorite game right now. This is a fantastic game to just pick up and play a few rounds. My sweet tooth has been satiated with this sweet and extremely cute beat em up. Grab your copy on the Xbox, PS4 (combatable with PS5), Steam and Google Stadia for only $19.99. Cake Bash will be released on Nintendo Switch later this year. Experience what goes on which your kitchen comes alive. (Disclaimer: no cavities occurred during the playthrough of this game!)
