E3 2017 – Nintendo Spotlight

By: AlanV

As usual Nintendo’s spotlight showcase is a lot shorter and completely different to everyone else at E3. A lot of information was from games we already knew existed, and the few new announcements had very little accompanying information. One such announcement was regarding a core RPG Pokémon game being developed for the Switch with no other information.

Nintendo is also looking to make a play for the e-sports crowd by featuring invitational tournaments during their event for ARMS, Splatoon 2 and Pokken Tournament DX. Gotta get that e-sports money!

Below are the games that were on display, and the Switch lineup is shaping up to be very strong.

Xenoblade Chronicles 2 – A new installment for the series, there is an obvious visual upgrade from previous game. Story and design have the usual JRPG trappings. It’s surprising to see this game come out so soon after the launch of the Switch, holiday 2017.

Kirby – The game looks like another solid entry to the franchise and sports co-op gameplay with up to four players. Looks like a very traditional Kirby game and will be released sometime in 2018.

Pokken Tournament DX – Pokémon fighting game.

Metroid Prime 4 – Title name only, but METROID PRIME IS ALIVE.

Yoshi – Fan favorite in a platformer that uses depth and field of vision for interesting visuals. 2018.

Fire Emblem Warriors – Fall 2017, just trailer. More Fire Emblem is never a bad thing.

Zelda Breath of the Wild DLC packs – The smash hit will get two DLC packs. The first is titled The Master Trials that adds new modes that will put adventurers’ combat skills to the test. It is slated for release on June 30th 2017. The second DLC pack is titled The Champions’ Ballad and will be available Holiday 2017.

Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle – Already shown at Ubisoft conference, so not much of note.

Rocket League – Yay? Holiday 2017.

Super Mario Odyssey – More worlds shown, and how Mario can take over and control other characters with his hat along with getting different abilities. Did not expect the hat to be used that way, looks incredibly fun! October 27, 2017.
